Alexa Cardamone is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist.
Born and raised in the DC area, Alexa now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Using a diverse range of materials she creates paintings, collages, and wearable art.
Much of her work explores themes of the natural world and the malleability of the human body. She finds the ever-changing human form has a relationship to the earth and its natural creations, forming constant opportunities for liminality between the two. It is in this area that she is interested.
The in-between. The malleable. The ambiguous. The unsettling.
Her work serves as a way to translate this liminality into something tangible. Although sometimes hard to describe, her work is based on intuition. She is dedicated to creating pieces born from following her own artistic impulses. By following these impulses, she attempts to relieve her works from their “objecthood” and elevate them into “subjecthood”.
She uses her work and the experimental process as a way to calm herself and quiet her thoughts. Life is often loud. Creating allows her mind and body to become a bit more calm and clear.
